So i havent been very active lately, caught in the chaos of the graduate show of Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, of which i will be the last class to graduate from next year. This is mainly because the school is being moved to Milan and its ressources severely cut because of the lack of vision of its financial supporters.

This event, insignificant for readers I’m sure, but somewhat major for Interaction design around the world, embodies what was being discussed this week in the value of supporting intense environments where people come from various backgrounds, dont agree and create so many innovative concepts and push the envelope every day. I spent the past year sourrounded by more creativity, a closed community, claustrophobic at times, but thats also what breeds creativity and i do not know of any other place where that exists in the academic world in interaction design.

So for the last time, if you’re next to Turin, show up this friday and saturday and we can have a chat…

Isn’t Hyper Island in Sweden kind of like Ivrea?

Wow i’d been hearing rumors about the ivrea/domus merge for some time now (both being under telecom italia, and opening programs the same year seemed a bit strange)… having been through the I-Design prog at domus, i think it might be a good mix between the teaching styles and approaches to Interaction/experience design… will be interesting to see what is to come of all of this…

Never heard of Hyper Island. And i think that any insight as to what the i-design program at Domus is about would be the start of an absent conversation till now…

Hyper Island seems to be about new media:

(from their website)
Applied within the projects are knowledge about business, information system design and technology, project management and production coordination, visual and market communication, brand management, quality assurance, creativity, social science, graphic design, databases and programming.

Interaction Design Institute Ivrea (IDII) touches on some of this, but also deals with physical computing and service design. Here’s a little brief about interaction design from the IDII website:
