While putting together a presentation, I found myself doing a Google Image search for the word Innovation. I was bemused with what I found; obviously a search for an image that represents a concept is a low-fidelity way of tapping the zeitgeist. I thought I’d share the first results of that image search, for your own consideration. What do you think?

Hey Steve,
Great question, but to truly be able to evaluate and differentiate between the different models it would have been nice to see the links. I’m curious to see what’s being said the pale blue one with orange text that is approximately #10 in your list.

Best,
Niti

Well, if you want to see what was being linked, you can simply replicate my experiment by doing a Google image search for “innovation”

Or http://images.google.com/images?q=innovation

But I was intrigued by the pictures themselves as a more immersive and visceral tour through a moment in time where innovation as a lure brought back various images. What they “really” mean is all well and good but there’s something else going on here when you take them out of context. That’s the fun!

OH! duh, didn’t see that at all. will look again, but now that you’ve made them bigger, (thanks!!!) I like the blue and orange one best as a innovation flowchart.

Hmm. I haven’t changed them at all. Maybe you just moved closer to your monitor!

oh, yes, i know that game ^_^

always very inspirational, and often quite informative too. i like to analyze various social memes, clichés, archetypes etd using google image search tool in this way.

try also flickr.com; it is fascinating to see what people consider ‘innovative’ in their daily life.

This question seems to be one with an elusive answer. Or perhaps it’s just that there is no one definitive answer. The images you found in your image search Steve, suggest and support the understanding that there are many interpretations, contexts and perceptions about innovation.

No. 14 was designed by me! http://connecta.typepad.com/cph127/files/IQ.gif
I’m glad you liked it representing innovation!
Thanks Steve!

Does anyone know the source of the second image (the finger pointing to the intense electric blue charge)? I would like to use the image but need to secure permission or a license to do so.
