Few weeks ago the online version of the economist included the following figure on membership growth of facebook. It appears that growth rates have somewhat peaked.

Do you agree, do you see the same movement? I my self got my FB-profile 5 months ago, and I must admit that I got one because of curiousness, and because a few clients asked me about the potential. Do you have a FB-profile? Why?

I agree that FB has peaked. But as I see it, it doesnt mean that people in general are fleeing from FB, just that FB does not grow anymore in numbers of members. But I guess they are still BIG.
I have a FB profile and use it just as a static profile where I have all my contacts. I could if I would stay in contact with my contacts (People I used to know and people i know). This is as I see it what is strong about FB. Furthermore the other strong part of FB is that it is so easy to create an event and invite people.
But all the applications on FB is in my world spam and I always “ignore” these applications and get annoyed by them. This is what I hear alot when I talk to people about FB. And this is what will get people to flee FB.
What I miss is simplicity and focus on dialog which I get from a site like Jaiku, which is centered arround microblogging. It is dynamic and I can follow friends and contacts that I have an interest in.

As being 50yr+ I might not be the typical FB-user. As Anders I find most of the applications for spam. However FB helps me keep in contact with next the generation.
I even get in contact with very part of the family that I ever have had a change to meet in real life.
I can be in on part of their dialogue and share some of their experiences.
It helsp me understand some of the possibilities of networking using web 2.0 which surely has a great potential. FB or not
